British Isles Princess Cruise – Scotland (June 2024)
It’s almost been 2 years since I went on this cruise (July 2022), but honestly I don’t care. I still want to write this post. I also have 1 more country after this to talk about that we went to. Now, on to our stops in Scotland. We went to Glasglow, Invergordon, and Edinburgh while we were over there. They are all such pretty areas and have such unique history.
Instead of staying in the city of Glasglow, my mom and I decided to go out to the country side and see the Highlands. We went to see Loch Lomond (I famous lake in many songs and legends) and one of the towns that surround it. We stopped at the Rest and Be Thankful area to have a nice scenic view of the Highlands and take in the beautiful nature that surrounded us. After that we went to Inveraray Castle which had such amazing history.
Invergordon was where we had to go see Loch Ness. Even if you don’t believe in ‘Nessie’, it is such a beautiful area to visit with some amazing views of Scotland. We also visited Culloden Moor (which if you’re not up on Scottish battle history, is the site of a famous battle in 1746).
Edinburgh we decided to do on our own instead of through a tour. My sister was there a couple of years before and so we had her decide some of the must see places. We stayed mainly on the Royal Mile once we go to city center. From there we decided to do a tour of The Real Mary King’s Close. Which, if you have never heard of it, is an underground medieval city that they have excavated near the Royal Mile. After that we decided to visit the Giles’ Cathedral which has the most amazing stain glass windows and craftsmanship (If you are of the Christian/Protestant faith, you should see that John Knox’s above stone is in fact in parking spot 23 outside of the Cathedral). For lunch we went to the Makars Mash Potato Bar (I had some amazing vegetarian haggis and mashed potatoes). Lastly, we went to the National Museum of Scotland which had some amazing exhibits (but of course we had to visit Dolly the Sheep). We didn’t have time to visit Edinburgh Castle, but we did see some amazing views of it from around the city.
