Give Me That Summer Glow | October 2015

As the days are getting colder and summer is fading to more like a distant memory, everyone is trying to see how to keep an overall summer glow going into the colder months.

I haven’t had that much luck with keeping a summer glow because :

1. I don’t really self tan, I find it is too much maintenance and it is easier just to embrace your natural skin.

2. I have sometimes have oily or combo skin.

3. I am pretty fair so most of the time my skin looks washed out.

There are a couple things I do to help keep me glowing year around:

1. I keep my hair as blonde as it is during the summer. I use Sun-In year round because it I think I look better with blonde hair. Most people tend to go darker during the colder months but I feel that doesn’t bring enough life to my appearance and brighter hair is more cheery on a gloomy day. You also want to keep your hair from getting dry so make sure you use that conditioner and hair masks.

2. Since the air gets dryer in the colder months there are certain things you should do to keep your skin looking healthy. Remember to drink tons of water as it will help give your skin moisture and glow. Change up your skin care so that instead of stripping the natural oil like we tend to do in the summer, keep it in with moisturizer.

3. There are so many ways through makeup that you can keep that natural glow going:

Through makeup, I try to keep my base make-up at a natural/satin dew instead of an overall matte which means that most of the time I don’t put on heavy foundation but keep it to a light powder. Matte make-up tends to be the go-to for colder months but it also can show how dehydrated or cracked your skin is from the cold.

I also tend to choose more warm tone colors for eye shadows or blush. If you keep going for the lighter makeup then it tends to glow more than if you choose the dark black smokey eye.

You can also do the ever popular bronzer. I find since my skin gets to be a little pale in the winter that most bronzers doesn’t look natural against it. I am still looking for that perfect one though.

Highlighter is also a great way to add glow. I can’t seem to find one light enough for my skin but I have been using light shades from my LORAC PRO Palette.

4. You can always find a recipe that has certain food to help with a healthy skin. I love searching Pinterest for them and also going to Aloha Recipes. Sometimes it is just easier to make a healthy meal then it is to keep up a beauty regimen. Some of the best foods for healthy skin (from an article in SELF) are Almonds, Chickpeas, Green Tea, Oranges, Salmon/Fish, and Sunflower Oil.

If all else fails with these tips there is always Photoshop to give you that instant highlight and glow. Also an easy way to keep it is to go on vacation somewhere warm during the colder months and refresh your summer glow. I also like to keep summer scents around for when I’m in the mood of summer during a cold day.

What do you like to do to keep that summer glow going all year?
